Suitcase Civilians proudly present Click Café, a brand new virtual performance exploring online identity and the digitisation of human experience. Performed to just one audience member at a time, the show leads audience members on a sensory experience using their mobile phones.

Directed by Sepy Baghaei, Click Café invites solo audience members to go to a secret performance location, armed only with their smartphones. With their phones as a guide, participants are led by a virtual performer on a physical and digital journey around the performance location, exploring the way that human beings communicate everyday experience into the frame of digital devices.

On the inspiration behind Click Café, director Sepy Baghaei says: “I was inspired by a number of digital phenomena. Firstly, the popularity of dating apps like Tinder, which make it acceptable for people to use their physical location to meet new people online, rather than reaching out and connecting to people in real-time. Secondly, I’m fascinated by the docu-series Catfish, which tracks the incredibly elaborate fake identities that people construct online in order to connect with others. I decided to create a virtual performance that occurred outdoors as a means of magnifying how micro our attention span has become within the macro of the everyday world: a sort of outdoorsy, Amazing Race version of the online world.”

Suitcase Civilians was founded in 2014 by Sepy Baghaei, with the ethos of creating easily transportable, tour-ready works in a variety of styles. Currently based in London, the company has a unique body of original work including one-to-one performance and scripted ensemble plays. Their debut production, Re: Memory, toured to London, Sydney and Sheffield in 2015. It was described as ‘thoroughly adventurous and quite wonderful’ (Suzy Wrong) and ‘the alternative theatre experience you have been waiting for.’ (Upstaged Reviews).

Click Café runs from the 5th 21st May as part of the Anywhere Festival (Thurs-Fri at 7:00pm and 8:00pm, Sat-Sun hourly from 2pm-8pm). Audience members will be emailed details on the secret location of the performance upon booking.
