The Wives of Wolfgang, the first play written by 21 year old Hannah Belanszky, takes place at a funeral, where the three former wives of the deceased, Wolfgang, are all in attendance. The story, merging between reality and the imagined, explores what would happen if “we actually said what we really wanted to say”, in situations both public and private.  While blending humour with darkness and real life with the ‘what if’, it features a mix of poetry and heightened text with everyday language.

As the story is set at a funeral, it made sense to put the play on within an actual church. Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Fortitude Valley has generously provided their beautiful Church space for the play, so audiences can feel they are truely attending the “funeral”.

Hannah Belanszky, Paige Poulier and Caitlin Hill are graduates of the Acting program at Southbank Institute of Technology. The Wives of Wolfgang is not the first time Poulier and Belanszky have collaborated. They had recent success in the Short and Sweet Queensland Gala Finals for 2015, held in the Powerhouse Theatre, when their performance of “The Roasting”, written and directed by Poulier, won them the overall award of Best Theatre Production. Poulier also secured the awards of Best Actor and Best New Talent. She is currently a company member of the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble for 2016.  Caitlin Hill  was cast in 2015 in Pentimento Production’s “Tip Toe”, directed by Sven Swenson, which was also performed in the Powerhouse Theatre.
