Midsummer

Presented by Underground Productions

We drink, dance, make art and fuck all while the world falls apart.
The platform under our very feet splinters irreparably while we jump up and down trying to learn how to fly away.

NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THIS SHOW.
And that’s the point.

We go about our every day lives like our very existence is not in danger. We commit to the ultimate performance by ignoring the inevitability of our extinction. Maybe it is time to be Chicken Littles and scream that the sky is falling.
But for now, come laugh and forget your woes–the bartender is pouring another round and the performers are warming up
—————————————————————————————–

Join a motley crew of survivors for an evening of song, dance, poetry and theatre as their stories are brought to life.
An intimate audience will be immersed in our hedonistic world set in a dive bar at the end of the world.
Adorned with haunting glamour and despair, the refugees’ last hurrah echoes off the illusory and dystopian world as the timer ticks closer and closer to the end.

  1. Brilliance in a bunker

OFFICIAL ANYWHERE REVIEW BY NATASHA HAYES”
    Midsummer Padre Bar 7pm 15 May 2017

Back at the Padre Bar, in the Bunker with a very different show to what I last saw here.

Bought to us by Undeground Productions, a resident theatre group based at the University of Queensland.

A sandstorm is brewing outside so we meet 2 ladies who have escaped by hiding in the bunker. 3 more ladies find there way in wanting to escape the sandstorm.

So begins a clash of ideas/morals and identity.

These ladies are not performers in fact they are not even studying performing arts at university. The ladies said to me at the end of the performance they are “just doing this for a hobby”

Wow!!! These ladies were terrific they spoke clearly, used the limited room in the space to their advantage, they became their character.

They were very convincing of how people would act if they were stuck in a bunker.

The story line had me hooked I just wanted to know would they escape the bunker or would thet accept each others differences and learn to cope in the bunker.

The sound effects were very realistic and the music especially at the end suited the story.

This was a very well thought out production and I wish the ladies all the very best for their future, I hope whatever their future holds if it is not performing I hope they are as successful in their chosen career as they were in this performance
