Director Quotes:

Cameron Cliff

“I’ve been fascinated with fables since I can remember. They always dig deeper than the state of childish wonder in which you first encounter them. When Kiah started telling me stories that her grandfather was recalling to her, of working at mental asylums in Ipswich in the 70s and 80s, it startled me how much they parallelled with some of the flaws of the characters in Peter Pan. We were on a research trip to New York at the time and kept experiencing site-specific theatre. We said we had to do this and those stories that Kiah was telling me were a perfect fit. It’s been amazing to play with how we can make this narrative personal for the audience, to invite them in and give them a truly immersive experience where they step outside their comfort zone. We’re making a show that you can see four times and get a different experience each time. It’s a challenge but it’s also addictive”.

Kiah Latham

“We came to Ruckus with this idea, an immersive performance of Peter Pan that incorporated themes of mental health drawn from true stories. The more we talked about these stories, we started to realise that you could use them to explore and open conversations about mental health issues, through the use of a familiar narrative and a host of beloved characters. Ruckus is known for pushing the envelope a bit, they’ve done a few immersive poetry shows in unexpected places, on bridges and in houses. This made them a perfect production partner for making an adventure where people could learn to fly or grow up, to actually interact with characters. They felt that Anywhere Fest was the perfect place to create a work like this, to challenge people and take them on a journey. I can’t wait for you all to meet Peter, Wendy, Hook and Tink and explore the set”.
